Five-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional

Sermon Audio

"From This Moment to the Next"

Day 1: Hearing God's Voice

Reading: 1 Samuel 3:1-10

Devotional: In our passage today, we see young Samuel learning to recognize God's voice. Like Joseph in Matthew 1, God often speaks to us in unexpected ways - through dreams, quiet whispers, or even the words of others. The key is being attentive and willing to respond.

Take a moment to reflect: How has God been trying to speak to you lately? Have you been listening? Remember, as we learned from Joseph's example, when God speaks to us in one moment, He expects us to act in the next. Today, commit to being more attentive to God's voice and ready to respond with obedience.

Day 2: Righteousness and Mercy

Reading: Micah 6:6-8

Devotional: Joseph was described as a righteous man, yet he also showed mercy in his initial plan to divorce Mary quietly. Our reading today reminds us that true righteousness isn't just about following rules, but about acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God.

Consider: How can you balance righteousness and mercy in your own life? Are there situations where you need to show more compassion while still upholding what's right? Pray for wisdom to discern God's will and the courage to act on it, just as Joseph did.

Day 3: God's Unexpected Plans

Reading: Isaiah 55:8-11

Devotional: The story of Jesus' birth is full of unexpected twists - a virgin conception, angelic visitations, and a savior born in a manger. Today's passage reminds us that God's thoughts and ways are often far beyond our understanding.

Reflect on a time when God's plan for your life took an unexpected turn. How did you respond? Remember that even when we don't understand, we can trust that God's plans are for our good and His glory. Ask God to help you embrace His unexpected plans with faith and obedience.

Day 4: The Power of "Emmanuel"

Reading: Matthew 1:18-23

Devotional: In today's reading, we revisit the story of Joseph and see the profound meaning behind Jesus' other name - Emmanuel, "God with us." This name encapsulates the incredible truth of the incarnation - that God chose to dwell among us.

Pause and consider what it means that God is with you, right now, in whatever circumstances you face. How does this change your perspective on your current challenges or joys? Thank God for His presence and ask for a deeper awareness of Emmanuel in your daily life.

Day 5: Responding to God's Call

Reading: James 1:22-25

Devotional: We saw how Joseph, upon waking from his dream, immediately did what the angel commanded. James echoes this prompt obedience, urging us to be doers of the word, not just hearers.

Today, challenge yourself to put your faith into action. Is there something God has been prompting you to do? Whether it's making a phone call, serving someone in need, or taking a step of faith, remember that when God speaks in one moment, He expects us to act in the next. Ask for the Holy Spirit's guidance and strength to follow through on what God is calling you to do.
