Five-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional

Day 1: Encountering Jesus Through Scripture

Bible Reading: Mark 15:1-15

Devotional: Today, we begin our journey by examining the trial of Jesus before Pilate. Reflect on the political and religious climate that led to Jesus being handed over for crucifixion. Consider how, in your own life, you face trials and are called to stand firm in your faith. How can you encounter Jesus through the scriptures and find strength in times of adversity?

Prayer Focus: Pray for insight to understand the trials you face and for the courage to stand firm in your beliefs as Jesus did before Pilate.

Day 2: The Trial and Crucifixion of Jesus

Bible Reading: Mark 15:16-20

Devotional: As we continue to walk through the story of Jesus' passion, focus on the mockery and suffering He endured. Jesus, though innocent, took on the pain and humiliation of the cross. Reflect on the nature of sacrifice and what it means to take up your cross daily to follow Him. In what ways does His example inspire you to endure hardships with grace?

Prayer Focus: Ask God to give you the strength to bear your own struggles with humility and to offer your sacrifices as a testament to your faith in Christ.

Day 3: The Compelling Act of Jesus' Cross

Bible Reading: Mark 15:21-26

Devotional: Consider Simon of Cyrene, who was compelled to carry the cross for Jesus. Simon's act of service, though initially forced, became a part of salvation history. Contemplate the tasks and roles you are compelled to take on in your life. How might these be transformed into acts of service that honor God and contribute to His greater narrative?

Prayer Focus: Pray for the willingness to embrace the tasks before you, even those that seem burdensome, knowing that through them, you serve a greater purpose.

Day 4: Responding to Christ's Call and Dependence

Bible Reading: Mark 15:27-32

Devotional: In the midst of Jesus' crucifixion, we witness others mocking Him, challenging Him to prove His divinity by coming down from the cross. Yet, it is in His staying, in His suffering, that Jesus fulfills His mission. Reflect on how you respond to Christ's call in your life. Are there ways you might be challenging Him to prove Himself, rather than trusting in His plan?

Prayer Focus: Pray for a deeper trust in Christ's plan for your life and the discernment to follow His call, even when it leads to personal sacrifice.

Day 5: The Significance of Jesus' Sacrifice

Bible Reading: Mark 15:33-39

Devotional: As we reach the conclusion of our readings, we witness the moment of Jesus' death and the centurion's recognition of His true identity. Jesus' ultimate sacrifice on the cross reveals the depth of God's love for us. Reflect on the impact of this sacrifice in your life and how it guides your daily walk of faith. How can you live out the transformative power of the crucifixion in your own spiritual journey?

Prayer Focus: Thank God for the gift of His Son and the salvation He offers. Pray for the ability to live a life that not only follows Christ's example but leads others to recognize Him as the Son of God.
